Goal V: Environmental Protection
ASCOA also aims at fostering environmental protection as a way of fighting environmental despoliation and consequently climate change and global warming.
In 2015, global emissions of carbon dioxide (C02) again rose, reaching 30 billion metric tons, an increase of 3.2% from the previous year.
This represents a 35% above the 1990 level. Per capita emissions remain highest in the developed regions - about 12 metric tons of CO2 per person per year in 2007, compared to about 3 metric tons on average per person in the developing regions and 0.9 metric tons in Sub-Saharan Africa.
This shows the need for a decisive response to climate change.
- To foster environmental protection, we have planted about 50 trees in 18 secondary schools in the neighbouring villages of Buea in the fight against climate change and global warming.
- Worked with other civil society organisations towards the protection of the ozone layer and lava eruption from the Buea Mountain.
- Affiliated to the YALI Network to fight against climate change. Contributed by disposing of wastes in the Buea community while separating recycling wastes from non-recycling wastes.
