Resilience for Internally Displaced through Professional Training

The Association for Community Awareness (ASCOA) is an NGO which has as goal to enhance the quality of life of underserved communities and promote sustainable development in Africa and the world at large. Due to the crisis in the South West and North West regions which has greatly affected many students, ASCOA is here to offer a professional scholarship program to train internally displaced youths as well as youths who don’t have access to education between the ages of 16 to 25years.

Cameroon, a country in West Africa has always been considered by many as a peaceful country. The peace that has been on for some time now has become so hostile and unaccommodating.  The ones peaceful country became plagued by a political crisis which started in November 2016. Amongst the effects of the ongoing crisis in Cameroon, is rampant loss of lives and properties as well as the burning down of houses leaving so many people homeless? The homeless nature now causes inhabitants of the too much affected areas to resort to seeking refuge in bushes and unorthodox means of survival.

It is against this backdrop that ASCOA has taken the initiative to partner with AMALA UK based charitable organization whose goal is to enable young people who have been displaced to access high quality learning, encouraging their return to education, while also opening up pathways for future higher education, entrepreneurship and employment.

Our focus will be mainly on the youth population within the ages 16-25years specifically the internally displaced, orphans and those who have been unable to meet up with their education needs as a result of the Anglophone crisis since 2016. We are not giving priority to the rich or well-placed people in our community but our aim and focus are to work with the most affected students in our community.

This educational project will focus on Social entrepreneurship for the time being. With the Social Entrepreneurship course, learners will explore how to make change in their communities through designing a project that does social good.

The sessions will run for a period of 10 weeks with 6 hours learning a week. Registration for the first session is ongoing till the 25 of July 2021. By the end of the training, learners would be able to identify and solve problems, design projects to create positive change in your community.
