POSITION TITLE: Communication Officer

LOCATION: Remote Online

REPORTS TO: Head of Communications

DURATION: 3 – 6 months (extendable on mutual consent), 12 hours/week

Open date: 15th February 2021

Closing date: 7th March 2021

Approximate starting date:  On a rolling bases

Language: English only

Salary: Volunteer position

The Opportunity:

The Communication Officer will be a vital and key member of the ASCOA team and your work will involve communications support.

You are creative but also detail oriented. You are always happy to help where you can. You are a team player and are quick to do what needs to be done to achieve team goals.

This role will give you a variety of skill building opportunities including social impact, communications, social media and project management. This is a remote, unpaid role and will report to the Head of Communications.

Who We Are:

The Association for Community Awareness (ASCOA) is an International NGO with headquarters in Buea, Cameroon (https://ascoa-cm.org/). ASCOA offers robust volunteer opportunities for young professionals and students looking to broaden their knowledge and skills in their field of study and community development.

The Role:

  • Oversee and execute social media plan to promote the organization, mission, programs, and events
  • Provide oversight of all communications with partners, donors, and the overall mission’s community.
  • Develop, write, and edit communications for internal and external partners
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate strategic communications plan for the organization, programs, and mission.
  • Expand reach and impact through strategic branding and messaging of both the organization and its programs.
  • Maintain communication calendar for the upcoming events and promote programs
  • Content marketing including creating and distributing multiple newsletters and blog posts, including management of mailing lists and databases.
  • Making minor website updates such as adding blogs, adding images, editing copy and creating pages
  • Ensure organizational initiatives and projects are successfully communicated to our audience.

Requirements:

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills with an ability to multitask
  • Ability to develop creative social media content
  • Knowledge of various social media platforms
  • Social media-savvy and understands social media trends
  • Able to combine creative campaign ideas with analytical skills to create successful posts
  • Proactive with an ability to work in a team
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, energy, and initiative
  • Basic Microsoft office knowledge – Word, Excel, Power Point
  • Experience using Canva and/or Adobe Creative Cloud. IMovie or Adobe Premiere Pro is a Plus
  • Experience using Mailchimp or similar e-mail marketing tool
  • Bachelor’s degree or pursuing an education in graphic design, communication, or related field, or equivalent experience
