The United Nations has granted ASCOA special consultative status

Sharing is caring!

We are thrilled to announce to you all, supporters and allies in the fight for better life conditions, that ASCOA has been granted special consultative status by the United Nations.

What does this bring to our organization? It means that we can participate in the work of ECOSOC (the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations) as well as engage with its subsidiaries program with the UN Secretariat (programs, funds and more). Thanks to this status, we are authorized to send representatives to the UN headquarters in New York, Vienna or Geneva and participate in events, conferences and activities, as well as to observe public meetings (of the Human Rights Council and the General Assembly for example). We may also submit written statements about topics within our competence, which can be circulated within the Council if approved, which would amplify our voice. There are many other advantages of obtaining this status, such as using ECOSOC facilities for small conferences related to the work of the council, using their press documentation services and libraries.

Of course, we are taking our obligations equally seriously and will be documenting our participation in ECOSOC activities, in parallel with launching initiatives that are positive contributions to the work the UN does.

As you can imagine, this is a great honor and a unique opportunity for ASCOA to learn and serve more disadvantaged people, as well as to participate in global events in support of our values. We cannot wait for the next step in ASCOA’s history!
