ASCOA achievements on marine debris and plastic pollution from the Limbe-Idenau coastline in Cameroon since 2018

The Association for Community Awareness (ASCOA) is a charitable non-profit organization with headquarters in Cameroon, West Africa and offices in the USA, UK and Kenya. ASCOA has as goal to enhance the quality of life of underserved communities and promote sustainable development in Africa and the world at large. ASCOA’s efforts range from fostering environmental protection with special focus on plastic pollution and marine littering, to increasing awareness of HIV/AIDS and combating related stigma, engaging in women empowerment, child support, peace building, and taking care of displaced population. As an NGO, ASCOA works together with international and African partner organizations for community outreach and education to create sustainable local communities and fight against climate change and the discrimination within the society.

Beach clean-up date: 20 January 2024

We are excited to announce that the Association for Community Awareness (ASCOA) is hosting an event to clean up Cameroon’s beautiful beaches, and we need your help! We are inviting passionate and dedicated volunteers to join us in supporting the preservation of our ocean and coastal ecosystems. As a volunteer, you will be able to make a real difference in our community and contribute to a cleaner, healthier coastline for everyone to enjoy. We welcome everyone, regardless of age or background, to participate in this meaningful initiative. Cameroon is one of the signatories of the Abidjan Convention and has been actively engaged in its implementation. The country has taken steps to address marine pollution, including the adoption of laws and regulations to control and manage hazardous waste, oil spills, and other forms of pollution. Cameroon has also established marine protected areas and taken measures to conserve and restore coastal habitats.

Efforts will be made during Cameroon Beach Cleanup Day to keep the following coastlines clean.

Limbe is a coastal city located in south west region of Cameroon, on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean. The Limbe coastline is a beautiful stretch of sandy beaches, rocky cliffs, and mangrove swamps that run for several kilometers. The coastline is known for its natural beauty, with stunning views of the ocean and the nearby Mount Cameroon, which is the highest mountain in the country.

Douala is a major port city located in Littoral region of Cameroon, on the banks of the Wouri River where it meets the Atlantic Ocean. The Douala coastline is a busy hub of commercial activity, with a variety of ports, docks, and industrial facilities lining the waterfront.

Kribi is a coastal town located in south region of Cameroon, on the shores of the Gulf of Guinea. The Kribi coastline is a beautiful stretch of sandy beaches, rocky cliffs, and dense rainforest that runs for several kilometers.

Our mission is to enable individuals, families and communities achieve their full potential. By doing so, we empower poor and remote communities to regain control of their lives.

ASCOA is a supporter of  Global Waste Cleaning Network (GWCN). This network comprises NGOs, Public and Private Companies, Educational institutions and Experts that are active and interested in environmental issues related to the management and reduction of waste, whether solid, liquid or gaseous.
