ASCOA

IN FIVE YEARS

In the spirit of integrity, accountability, empowerment and engagement, ASCOA is committed to promoting health, fostering peace, protecting the environment, empowering women/girls and supporting children of various communities in a bid to promote self-reliance and sustainable development. To achieve this, its annual plans for a 5-year medium term period have been summarised in the diagram below. ASCOA’s board members and the committees that ensure the day-to-day running of the organisation are determined to build stronger communities through community mobilisation and are convinced that this plan is the way to go. The Development and Fundraising Committee is central to the implementation and evaluation of this roadmap and is continuously sourcing the material, human and financial resources needed to accomplish ASCOA’s vision.

We define quality of life here as the wellbeing and prosperity of the population; the state of feeling safe; the availability of healthcare, education, needs satisfaction, and economic opportunity. We believe that if people live in an environment where they feel safe; have access to integrated health care and quality education, and participate in rigorous community development initiatives, they would be able to attain self-reliance and improve their quality of life. Thus, we accomplish our mission by enabling individuals, families and communities to achieve their full potential. By doing so, we empower these poor and remote communities to regain control of their lives through the power of their own enterprise. Issues pertaining to quality of life have increasingly been an area of concern to many communities in the less developed countries. We, therefore, continue to apply community-based strategy to improve quality of life.

The Launch Of The National Beach Cleanup Day in Cameroon

The Cameroon National Beach Cleanup Day was launched on the 19th of January, 2023 by the Association of Community Awareness (ASCOA), in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and the Government of the southwest region of the country.

Sex Education for Women Saves Lives

In Cameroon, the number of teenage pregnancies each year remains high and often exacerbate ill-health and poverty in young women. 12% of all live births are from adolescents. Health outcomes for both mother and baby are much worse for teen mums. Abortion, which is the other side of the coin, also carries risks as girls often use homemade means of inducing abortion that are not medically safe.
