Supporting Vulnerable Children. Creating Opportunities for a Brighter Future.

At the Association for Community Awareness (ASCOA), we believe every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and build a better future, regardless of their circumstances. However, poverty, displacement, and other social and economic challenges can prevent vulnerable children from accessing essential educational resources and enjoying the opportunities they need to thrive.
Through our Child Support Unit, ASCOA is dedicated to supporting vulnerable children in underserved communities through scholarships, back-to-school donations, and assistance to internally displaced children affected by the crisis.
Our work seeks to ease some of the challenges facing vulnerable children and their families, particularly by helping children access educational materials, receive essential items, and prepare for the school year with greater confidence and dignity.

Our Child Support Initiatives

Supporting Internally Displaced Children

The ongoing crisis in Cameroon’s North-West and South-West Regions has disrupted the lives and education of many children, forcing families to leave their homes and seek safety in other communities. For displaced families facing financial hardship, meeting children’s basic needs and preparing them for school can be especially difficult.
In response, ASCOA has supported more than 150 internally displaced children from local communities, including Mile 16 and Muea, through the provision of back-to-school supplies, clothing, gifts, and other essential items.
These interventions aim to ease some of the financial pressures faced by affected families while helping children prepare for school and feel supported within their communities.
Through this work, ASCOA recognizes the importance of standing alongside children affected by displacement and ensuring that their needs remain part of community development efforts. We believe that every child deserves care, encouragement, and opportunities to continue learning, even in difficult circumstances.

Back-to-School Support

The start of a new school year can place considerable financial pressure on families already struggling to meet their daily needs. For vulnerable households, the cost of essential school materials and other necessities can create additional barriers to children’s education.
ASCOA’s back-to-school support initiatives seek to reduce some of these challenges by providing educational supplies and other essential items to children who need assistance.
By supporting children as they prepare for the school year, we aim to encourage school participation, promote educational inclusion, and help families manage some of the costs associated with returning to school.
Our approach reflects our belief that access to education should not be unnecessarily limited by a child’s economic or social circumstances.

Scholarship Support

ASCOA is committed to supporting vulnerable children through scholarship initiatives that help address financial barriers to education.
We recognize that educational opportunities can shape a child’s future, strengthen their confidence, and expand their possibilities for personal development. Scholarship support is therefore an important part of our broader commitment to helping children access learning opportunities and work toward their aspirations.
Through this area of work, ASCOA seeks to encourage educational continuity and contribute to a future in which children from disadvantaged backgrounds have greater opportunities to develop their potential.

Promoting Children's Well-being and Protection

Beyond material and educational support, ASCOA recognizes the importance of children’s safety, dignity, and overall well-being.
Our organizational approach to child protection emphasizes safety planning, site checks, communicating relevant restrictions to participants, and ensuring appropriate first-aid and emergency response arrangements during activities.
We believe that children must be supported in environments where their safety and dignity are respected. We therefore seek to promote responsible community engagement and collaboration with families, schools, volunteers, and relevant stakeholders in activities involving children.

Our Approach

ASCOA’s Child Support Unit works through community engagement, targeted assistance, awareness creation, and collaboration to respond to the needs of vulnerable children.
We recognize that children facing poverty, displacement, and other hardships may require different forms of support. By combining educational assistance with practical donations and community-based initiatives, we seek to address immediate needs while encouraging children’s continued development.
We also value partnerships with individuals, schools, organizations, and development partners who share our commitment to improving children’s access to education and essential support.

Our Commitment to Children

ASCOA remains committed to supporting vulnerable children and helping create opportunities for them to learn, grow, and participate meaningfully in their communities.
Our support to more than 150 internally displaced children demonstrates our commitment to standing with children and families affected by the crisis. Through scholarships, back-to-school assistance, clothing donations, and other community initiatives, we seek to help ease some of the challenges children face and promote greater educational inclusion.
We believe that investing in children is an investment in the future of our communities. Every child deserves the chance to develop their abilities, pursue their aspirations, and build a better future.
