Growing as a leader: The Bridge Alliance Leaders Mastermind Cohort

Showing his commitment to continuous learning and leadership, ASCOA Founder and CEO Linus Ayangwoh Embe is taking part in the Bridge Alliance Leaders Mastermind Cohort 5, a short-term programme that gathers diverse social entrepreneurs and leaders to share ideas, projects, and initiatives, and learn from each other.

Linus introduced ASCOA’s Cleaner ocean for sustainable development project, which consists mainly of beach clean-ups to reduce plastic waste in Cameroon’s coastlines. Since 2018, ASCOA has collected more than 35,000 plastic bottles and 188,500 items from the shores and partnered with nine environmental organisations to keep the oceans clean and raise awareness about the negative effects of plastic pollution. Indiscriminate dumping of plastics and other waste is rampant in the South West coastal region, especially in the principal coastline of Ngeme-Batoke. The area is home to vulnerable and critically endangered species. ASCOA aims to change the behaviour of local communities that contribute significantly to this problem.

The Mastermind sessions are designed to help participants execute their concepts from beginning to end. The programme also helps them build relationships with more established organisations and expand their network. Cohort attendants improve their effectiveness as leaders, and in turn, their organisations, leading to sustainable and beneficial projects.

The Bridge Alliance is a coalition of civil society organisations that promotes civic engagement, good governance and policy-making. Its members help each other build their capacities to find the best solutions to address the problems affecting their communities.
