INTRODUCTION;
Menstrual Hygiene Day (MHD) was introduced by the German-based NGO WASH United in 2013 and was first observed in 2014. The aim is to highlight the importance of good menstrual hygiene management (MHM) at the global level and to advocate for the integration of menstrual hygiene management into policies and programs. The date May 28 was chosen because May is the fifth month of the year, and the average menstrual cycle is about 28days long
Menstrual Health and Hygiene (MHH) is essential to the well-being and empowerment of women and adolescent girls. On any given day, more than 300 million women worldwide are menstruating. In total, an estimated 500 million lack access to menstrual products and adequate facilities for menstrual hygiene management (MHM). To effectively manage their menstruation, girls and women require access to water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) facilities, affordable and appropriate menstrual hygiene materials, information on good practices, and a supportive environment where they can manage menstruation without embarrassment or stigma.
At ASCOA Women Empowerment, Health is one of our core focus areas. Our mission is to raise awareness on the importance of menstrual hygiene management, advocate for access to menstrual hygiene products, education, and facilities, particularly for women and girls in underserved communities.
