Campaign: 500 Volunteers, One Mission for Cleaner Coastlines
The Association for Community Awareness (ASCOA) is proud to announce the launch of its International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) Day 2026 Campaign, joining millions of volunteers worldwide in the largest global volunteer movement dedicated to protecting our oceans.
The International Coastal Cleanup®, coordinated globally by Ocean Conservancy since 1986, is the world’s largest single-day volunteer effort for ocean health. Every year, on the third Saturday of September, millions of people across more than 100 countries come together to remove marine litter from beaches, rivers, lakes, and waterways while collecting valuable data that helps shape environmental policies and solutions. The 2026 global cleanup will take place on Saturday, 19 September 2026.
Since 2018, ASCOA has proudly commemorated International Coastal Cleanup Day in Cameroon by bringing together volunteers, community groups, schools, government institutions, businesses, and environmental partners to restore the country’s coastlines and raise awareness about the growing threat of marine pollution.
This year, ASCOA is scaling up its impact through an ambitious campaign that will:
- Mobilize 500 volunteers for large-scale beach cleanup activities.
- Conduct simultaneous cleanups across five coastal locations in Cameroon.
- Train 50 Beach Cleanup Coordinators to strengthen local leadership, improve volunteer management, and promote safe and effective cleanup practices.
Beyond removing waste from our beaches, the campaign seeks to inspire environmental stewardship, promote responsible waste management, and generate reliable data on marine debris to support evidence-based conservation actions and policy development.
