“The Sustainable Development Goals: Building Blocks for Peace.”

Project Overview

This project was geared towards educating the community that is the youths, women and men on the need for peace in the communities and the world at large. The rate of population growth has increased pressure on natural resources leading to the increasing demand of these resources and thus conflict for its existence. The need to control and acquire resources for economic development and other purposes by nations and individuals stands today as one of the most important source of conflict all over world. Also, cultural and religious differences have been a contributory factor towards conflict generation. These have led to the numerous conflicts between people, nations as well as between continents. As a backdrop from these, there was therefore the need to sensitize the population on peace if world peace has to be achieved. The main approach used to present the information to the public included peace match pass, discussion, messages on banner and flyers, presentations by guess speakers, media sensitization among others. Group photographs were taken at the end of the day to mark the end of the ceremony.

STRATEGIES

This project used mainly illustrations and presentations by students and some ASCOA members to disseminate works and illustrations of peace messages. The major objective of this project was to create awareness on the need for peace within our communities, schools, institutions, the general public and world. The project was achieved from these objectives;

    • A week media publicity and sensitization of the public through the local media station available was done.
    • Printing and distribution of flyers bearing peace messages to the public, peace match pass was also carried out to educate the entire population on the need for peace in the community and the world.
    • The role of peace and its importance was presented and illustrated on the card board papers, flyers and the banner carrying the theme of the World Peace Day.

STRUCTURAL CHANGES:

After the completion, participants and the Buea population were able to make accession on the need for building peace in homes, community and the country. Sensitization campaign on the radio with Discussions on discrimination and religious differences as a major cause of world conflict helped bring together some participants from this different religious background to share experiences in their different communities. The match pass exercise carried out did not only mark a symbol of oneness, but also as a symbol of peace.
